Gordon Ramsay

See how Bento Sites transformed Gordon Ramsay’s website header into a beautiful, strategy-focused design (unsolicited).

Redesigned header of Gordon Ramsay's website that shows him in his home kitchen.

Imagine learning comedy from Steve Martin, acting from Samuel L. Jackson or even business strategy and leadership from Bob Iger. Well, that’s all possible with Masterclass. Unlike Skillshare or Udemy, Masterclass offers on-demand courses from instructors who are well-known experts in their industries.

Recently, after watching a trailer for one of Gordon Ramsay’s Masterclasses, I visited his website. Even though he's created two masterclasses, offers many in-person classes at his restaurants, wrote several bestselling books, has four top-rated TV shows and lots of mouth-watering recipes — none of these offerings are featured in the header. Instead, there's just an irrelevant image, short bio and a link to learn more.

In this post, I'm going to redesign the header of Gordon Ramsay's website into one that would've converted me from visitor to student (unsolicited).

Project Brief

Business Goal

Improve the layout of Gordon Ramsay's header by featuring one of his Masterclasses.

Conversion Goal‍

Increase Masterclass enrollment.

Wrap Up

You just viewed my redesigned header for Gordon Ramsay. Aside from the irrelevant image (he looks more like a businessman than a celebrity chef), the poor copy and centered layout, highlighting "Gifts” navigation link also falsely conveys that users are on the “Gifts” page when they’re on the homepage. It would’ve been more clearly understood if the navigation link was designed as a button. Frankly, there was a lot to improve in just the header.
